Wow! I wasn't sure about this one. Many times as I was reading, I thought about ditching this one. Then I found myself drawn back in with hopes that a better situation would develop. Over and over this happened. Finally, the ending came and with it, a sigh of relief. It finally became what I was hoping for. What a relief.This book is not for every one. It is dark, but the development of plot and characters is very very good. In fact the visuals due to the descriptives were quite intense. Could have done without so much violence towards children, as I am not a great supporter of this, but the ending justifies the means in this particular novel. Would recommend it to only a select group of people due to the graphic violence in this book.
Exceptional ploy premise and development. Hoping this author keeps honing his skill at writing. Looking forward to more from this author.

This book was a great surprise for me when i read it. Initially I thought I was not going to like it.There were certain aspects of the opening bit that annoyed me and almost made me stop reading. The character of Remger was one I disliked quite a bit, his personality seemed very forced and his interactions with Evan were annoying at best and did not mesh well with the rest of the story.
Luckily the ends quickly and from there the books opens up into a fantasy world that i have never seen before. The book brought a new and refreshing view to the fantasy, not so much in plot but quite a bit in scenes and characters.
This was a very enjoyable read and if you can get past the lackluster start you can open up to new mesmerizing world.
Wild fantasy adventure with all the harsh realities of life!! The magic was uncontrolled in its use to the detriment of an entire world. Well thought out and well written.
This is a very impressive debut from Nash. I don't know much about the author, but would like to read more of their work. At $4 for the kindle version, this is an absolute steal. I'm picky about my fantasy and this author is a special talent.
Locke is indeed a strange place, just like the description tells you. Metal is scarce, everything is created from wood. Surrounded by cliffs and forests, population 8,000. No one has ever ventured out, the only group that enters in are a strange tribe of people called Puritans who come in from the woods. They enter the town for one sole purpose, to kidnap the town's deformed infants. Elias, 13 year old Evan Groon's baby brother, is one of the unfortunate children snatched by the Puritans.
Evan enters a quest he never thought he would. He enters the forest to find both his brother and his now missing father. The forest holds things he's never seen before. Magical things, scary things. A true fantasy, nothing like what he ever imagined would be in a forest. The descriptions were so vividly written, it was so easy to picture yourself right alongside Evan on his journey.
The characters of this book were the best part. My favorites of course were Evan and "Lobo". Evan had great inner strength for such a young person, and his determination to find what's left of his family really gave me a good feeling. The ending was complete, yet not. It seems like the author made it that way in case any sequels were to come along. It was still a satisfying ending.
I'm trying to figure out what the perfect age group for this book is and I can't think of who would be the target audience. Anyone from pre-teen to adult who enjoys "fantasyland" would probably find interest in it. There are some things that youngins may find a bit scary, which is why adults may like it too. Heck, I'm an adult (at times) and I would read it again, including any sequels that are written.
This story was wild, very creative. Parts of it reminded me of an anime series I watched one time, although the story was completely different. There were areas that were a bit macabre for my taste, and considering the hero is just thirteen, it was darker than I'd want my young teens to read personally. As an adult, though, I enjoyed most of it.
OH MY GOSH!! Check for yourself, I rarely review. This however I absolutely had to! I barely got anything done because I had such a hard time putting it down. It was a very unique story that was a cross between imo, a fairy tale, a fable, and fantasy all rolled up into one awesome book! There was a bit more violence than what I usually like to read, but that's just a personal thing and not enough for me to hold back from giving as many stars as possible. Read this book, its wonderful and I cannot wait for the authors next book! I will definitely read!
The world, mysteries, concepts, monsters and characters created in this novel are incredibly imaginative. Each chapter drives the readers imagination to crave the next revelation. This story is mesmerizing and displays great literary talent. I could clearly visualize the strange vivid landscapes, fanciful structures, odd creatures and bizarre organic conveyances of the inhabitants.
I have been an avid reader for many years. Very rarely do I feel a novel is worth the money payed. Into The Trees is worth paying for, for certain. Upon finishing this exceptional story I went to J. Alastair Nash's author page to purchase anything else written. I found no other novels.
Please keep writing, I will watch for the next epic adventure.
